Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the water from my “HOT” faucet always discolored with a  “Brown” tint?

It is likely that your hot water heater has not been flushed in a very long time.  When the hot water sits at the bottom of your hot water tank for long periods it will eventually pick up rust, minerals and sediment from the tank and should be flushed periodically.  Please refer to your owner’s manual.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLUSH YOUR HEATER IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN INSTRUCTED TO DO SO PROPERLY WITHOUT CAUSING INJURY TO YOURSELF OR OTHERS.

What is that “Pink” stuff around my showerhead and bowl?

Pink residue is less likely a problem associated with water quality than with naturally occurring airborne bacteria and is also affected by the homeowners cleaning habits.

Why would my service be turned off?

Your service can be turned off for a number of reasons; delinquency of your bill, when access is denied to your meter, uncontrollable leakage, meter or valve box tampering and also at the written request of the homeowner.

Is there fluoride in our water?

Yes, less than 0.5 parts per million.  We do not put fluoride in the water.  The fluoride that is in the water is there naturally.

Why is my water cloudy?

The problem is usually air bubbles trapped in the Water Distribution System.  Fill a glass with cold water and let it sit on the counter for a few minutes.  You will see the air rise to the top and disburse, leaving the water clear.  Let your water run for approximately 15 minutes, this should clear the air from the water lines.

If you continue to have a problem, please call our office - 856-783-0739

Why does our water sometimes have a yellowish/orange color?

Discolored water is caused mostly by a heavy demand on the Distribution System.  The system’s flow increases in different directions and this creates the discoloration in the water.  Let your cold water run for 15 minutes.

If you continue to have a problem, please call our office - 856-783-0739.

What do I do if there is a sewer backup at my home?

Check to see if there are other areas in your home that are backed up.  Do not use any water until the blockage is cleared.  If everything is backed up, check your curb vent.  If the water is high in the vent, call our office – 856-783-0739 during regular business hours, after hours call our emergency number - 866-435-2296.  Clearly state your name, address, telephone number and the type of emergency.  An on-call person from the Pine Hill Borough Municipal Utilities Authority will contact you concerning the emergency.  If the curb vent is dry, your block is between the curb vent and your home; you will have to contact a plumber.
