Sewer Backups and Blockages
Please No Wipes in the Pipes
The Authority is currently having a problem with sewer backups in homes and blockages in our mains and our pump stations due to the increase of people flushing wipes into the sewer system. These wipes are advertised as “flushable”, but they do not break down in the sewer system like toilet paper and can block sewer lines and clog our equipment; increasing maintenance and repair costs for the Authority. We are asking that you do not flush wipes; throw them in the trash can. Remember “No Wipes down the Pipes”.
Please do not pour cooking oil or grease down your drains as this causes clogged sewer lines and backups. The liquid oil or grease floats on water and easily adheres to your sewer pipes. When the oil hardens in the plumbing pipes and sewer lines; it can cause sewer waste to back up into your home. These oils also cause problems down the line as they continue through our system. Grease Disposal – pour the hot liquid grease into a container. Once the grease solidifies empty it into the trash or throw the container away.
